Recommended Handling and Storage
Silaferm is slightly corrosive due to its salt content and acidic pH.
- Storage of Silaferm in plastic or stainless steel tanks is recommended.
- Pumps should be plastic or stainless steel when used long term to handle Silaferm.
Application of Silaferm
Recommended Application Rate – 2.5% of fresh forage weight (equal to) 50lbs./ton fresh forage (equal to) 5 gallons/ton fresh forage.
Recommended Method of Application – Apply Silaferm using suitable corrosion resistant pumps and equipment.
Apply Silaferm evenly to top of a load of fresh cut forage in wagons or trucks. Unloading and silo filling provides mixing of Silaferm into the forage.
Apply Silaferm by pumping it into a silage blower or bag filler at the appropriate rate at the time of actual silo filling.
